August’s Yang Wood on Metal Monkey Energy
7th August 1:53pm TO 7th September 4:53pm
If you think the first half of the year has gone by quickly, think again.
August 7th marks the midpoint of the Chinese solar calendar, ushering in the month of Yang Wood on a Metal Monkey—another combination of elements in clash. In fact, nearly every month this year has brought clashing elements, which means constant change. And as August is the mid-year point, expect those changes to intensify.
If you haven’t yet let go of relationships that no longer serve you, changed jobs or schools, moved house, travelled, or dropped old habits, the second half of the year—especially August—may impose change upon you. My advice: take the initiative now, so change happens by you, not to you.
In this Year of Yin Wood on Fire Snake, the Yin Wood influences the first half of the year, while the Fire Snake dominates the second. Interestingly, August introduces another Wood element into the mix. Yang Wood is associated with leadership; CEOs, heads of state, and people in charge—so this month could bring leadership shifts, resignations, or credibility losses at the highest levels of government and business.
The Metal Monkey is a travel star and aligns harmoniously with the Fire Snake, creating the Water element. Both being travel stars, they signal fast-paced transitions, from policy and government changes to significant environmental shifts. The Monkey also begins the Water Trine (Monkey, Rat, Dragon), which may bring floods, sea accidents, communication breakdowns, and hidden information coming to light—like a tsunami of long-buried secrets.
Adding complexity, the Monkey forms a Fire Penalty with the Snake and Tiger. This can bring accidents, anxiety, and health concerns related to the heart, eyes, and circulation, as well as travel delays and even natural disasters such as volcanic eruptions or earthquakes.
If you have a Tiger in your Four Pillars chart (year, month, day, or hour of birth), you may feel this Fire Penalty more strongly. To reduce its effects, donate your time, volunteer, declutter and give away items, or contribute to a charity. Drive carefully, avoid speeding, and be mindful on Tiger days: August 13 & 25, and September 6.
This month, the malevolent Star #5 returns to the central palace, creating a Fu Yin chart—where all stars duplicate their original Lo Shu positions, amplifying inauspicious energy. Combined with the yearly Illness Star #2, this signals major shifts, possible upheavals, and even phantom sightings. Keep your home’s centre clean, quiet, and well-lit. To weaken the effect, place metal items (bowl, statue, or ornament) in that area.
While August’s energies promise change and challenge, remember that change can be the catalyst for growth. It can move you out of your comfort zone to open doors or test your resilience. Wherever possible, be the one to initiate the change, so you remain in control of your destiny.
And because the month will be fast paced, it’s wise to do the opposite: slow down. Finish projects, meditate, study, care for your health, walk in nature, and invest time in both yourself and your home.
May August be the turning point that brings the change you need.

Flying Stars August 2025

Centre: This month, the malevolent Star #5 returns to its original central position, creating a Fu Yin chart—where all stars align with their Lo Shu counterparts, intensifying the month’s energy in a traditionally inauspicious way. Teaming up with the Yearly Illness Star #2, this combination signals major shifts, potential upheavals, and even possible phantom sightings. Keep the centre of your home clean, quiet, and well-lit. To reduce the impact, place metal items such as a bowl, statue, or decorative piece in this area.
North: The monthly Star #1 (Water) blesses the North with prosperity and supports career growth; it’s a good sector to activate for work-related progress.
Northwest: Star #6 returns to its original home in the Northwest according to the Lo Shu, which can amplify challenges related to legal matters, authority figures, the military, and conflicts—particularly between fathers and eldest sons—as the argumentative Yearly Star #3 also occupies this sector. There is also an increased risk of accidents involving the legs or sharp metal objects such as knives and swords in this area.
West: This month, the west is under the influence of clashing energies, as the monthly Star #7 (Metal) flies in and overpowers the yearly Star #4 (Wood). Both stars carry disruptive qualities, of scandal and affairs amplifying the potential for conflict, arguments, and misunderstandings within the household — particularly between women or sisters. Avoid more than one female presence in this sector.
Northeast: The monthly Star #8 (Earth) flies into the Northeast, reinforcing the challenging energy of the Yearly Star #5 (Earth), which is linked to misfortune and obstacles. With both stars considered inauspicious, it’s wise to support your digestive and immune systems, and avoid fire and earth tones in this sector—especially if it includes a bedroom or living space.
East : The argumentative Star #3 (Wood) takes residence in the East this month, heightening the potential for conflict, slander, theft, and legal issues. While it does support the Yearly Star #9 (Fire), which can enhance success and recognition, this may also come with gossip, disputes, or legal entanglements.
Southeast: The monthly Star #4 (Wood), associated with academic and literary pursuits, joins forces with the Yearly Star #1 (Water), which also supports intellectual success. This powerful combination makes the sector ideal for studying or academic achievement, though it may also attract gossip or romantic entanglements.
Southwest: The Illness Star #2 (Earth) moves into the Southwest this month. Keep this area tidy, quiet, and free from disruption. To reduce its effects, place six metal coins to counteract health issues, and avoid using fire or earth-toned colours in this sector. Build up your immune system and avoid heavy fired foods.
South: The monthly Star #9 (Fire) brings energy for prosperity, success, and personal growth. However, with the Yearly Star #6 (Metal) also present in the South, it’s important to support your lung health—incorporate deep breathing, spend time in nature, and keep up regular exercise to strengthen this area.
On a global scale, countries or regions in the Northeast, Centre, Southwest and Northwest may experience challenges this month. Extra caution is advised if these energies fall into key areas of your home, such as the bedroom, front door, or kitchen. Avoid disturbing the land through digging or renovations in these sectors this month, as it could lead to financial loss or misfortune.

Health Tips for August 2025
In August, we are influenced by the Yang Wood over Metal Monkey energy. According to the Five Elements theory, wood and metal are in conflict, meaning wood is weakened. This affects the head, gallbladder, lungs, and colon.
When wood is weak, common symptoms may include tension headaches, neck stiffness, irritability, dry cough, skin dryness, constipation, or disrupted sleep (especially between 11 pm and 3 am).
To support your health this month:
- For the gallbladder and head: avoid greasy foods, drink chrysanthemum tea with goji berries, and regularly massage/Guasha the neck and shoulders to release the tension.
- For the lungs and colon: eat white foods such as pear, daikon radish, and lotus root. Practice deep breathing and stay hydrated.
- To manage the wood-metal conflict: stretch regularly, include light sour Flavours like lemon in your meals, and manage emotional stress.
Simple self-care practices like foot soaks, meditation, or gentle qigong can help regulate Qi and promote calm.
