We are now moving into the second half of the Fire Horse Year as we welcome the Yang Fire Monkey Month (7 August – 7 September).

In Chinese Astrology, the Monkey month marks the beginning of Autumn in the Chinese Calander, a season where the energy naturally starts to turn inward. It’s a time to slow down just a little, reflect on where you’ve been, reassess your priorities and make any adjustments before the year races to the finish line.

The first half of the Fire Horse Year has certainly kept us on our toes! It’s been fast, exciting and full of change. We’ve seen incredible advances in technology, shifts in politics and world events, and for many of us, life has felt like it’s been moving at lightning speed.

Even though we’re now in the Monkey month, we’re still very much under the influence of the Fire Horse. The Horse loves freedom, movement and adventure. It’s charismatic, independent and doesn’t like to be tied down. It also has a habit of bringing hidden things into the open, so don’t be surprised if more secrets, scandals or long-hidden truths begin to surface over the coming months.

The Monkey is also known as the Travel Star, making travel a strong theme this month. We may see changes in the travel industry, along with the occasional delays or disruptions. At the same time, I wouldn’t be surprised to see exciting developments in aviation, technology and even space travel.

This month’s energy is Yang Fire sitting over the Metal Monkey (Bing Shen 丙申). In the Five Elements, Fire places pressure on Metal, encouraging it to transform. In simple terms, this is an energy that asks us to deal with what we’ve been putting off. Whether it’s in our personal lives or on a global scale, it’s time to make decisions, restructure where needed and let go of what is no longer working.

We may see businesses changing direction, governments reviewing policies and financial markets becoming more reactive as important decisions begin to unfold. As Metal is associated with money and currency, while Fire relates to investment markets and economic activity, we may also witness increased volatility and important shifts within the global economy.

From a Feng Shui perspective, Monthly Flying Star 2 moves into the centre of every home and workplace this month. While traditionally known as the Illness Star, it also reminds us not to ignore our wellbeing. If you’ve been running on empty, August is your reminder to slow down and look after yourself. Keep your immune system strong, spend time outdoors weather permitting, soak up some sunshine and keep your body moving, whether that’s through walking, hiking, Tai Chi, yoga or any activity you enjoy.

One thing I’ve learnt over the years is that Chinese Astrology isn’t about predicting doom and gloom. It’s about understanding the energy so we can work with it instead of against it. August is asking us to be a little more thoughtful, a little more strategic and to build strong foundations for the rest of the year.

Sometimes the biggest progress comes not from pushing harder, but from knowing when it’s time to pause, reassess and move forward with purpose.

Flying Stars August 2026

Each month, the Flying Stars shift, bringing different energies into each area of your home. These influences can affect our health, relationships, finances, career, and overall wellbeing. Below is a general guide to the energies for August.

🏠 Centre

Monthly Star 2 (Earth) moves into the Centre, bringing energy associated with ill health, particularly affecting the stomach and digestive system. As the Yearly Star 1 (Water) resides in this area, the reproductive system and kidneys may also be affected.

This month, it is recommended that we keep the centre of our home calm, clutter-free, and peaceful. Nourishing foods that strengthen the immune system are encouraged, while limiting sugary and highly processed foods may be beneficial.

Recommended cures: Place a saltwater cure, six metal coins, or a Wu Lou in this sector. Prioritising self-care, eating antioxidant-rich foods, and allowing time for rest and rejuvenation will also be supportive.

⬆️ North

Monthly Star 7 (Metal) arrives in the North, bringing energies associated with gossip, misunderstandings, arguments, fraud, theft, legal disputes, and financial loss. Combined with the Yearly Star 6 (Metal), issues involving authority, discipline, or the law may arise, particularly between fathers and daughters or other authority figures.

This powerful metal combination, sometimes referred to as a Double Metal Clash, can also symbolically reflect military conflict or heightened tensions on a global scale.

North-East

The malevolent Monthly Star 5 (Earth) enters the North-East and is challenged by the Yearly Star 4 (Wood). This combination may indicate financial loss through gambling, speculative investments, or the stock market. It may also aggravate conditions such as eczema and viral infections.

Remove fire elements from this sector for the month, including red, pink, orange, and burgundy décor, candles, and bright lighting where possible.

Recommended cure: Keep this sector quiet and undisturbed. Avoid renovations, drilling, or excessive noise. A six-rod metal wind chime may help weaken the Earth energy.

➡️ East

The Prosperity Star 9 (Fire) visits the East, joining the Yearly Star 8 (Earth). This auspicious combination brings opportunities for success, promotion, recognition, wealth, and growth.

Enjoy the positive energy of this sector by spending time here whenever possible.

South-East

The Academic Star 1 (Water) visits the South-East, combining with the prosperous Yearly Star 9 (Fire). This is an excellent combination for promotions, career opportunities, academic success, personal growth, and positive new beginnings.

Make the most of this supportive energy by actively utilising the South-East sector of your home or workspace.

⬇️ South

Star 6 (Metal), associated with conflict, betrayal, theft, and challenges involving authority, enters the South and combines with the Yearly Star 5 (Earth), creating one of the more difficult combinations this month.

This sector may bring health concerns affecting the lungs and head. If possible, avoid holding important meetings or significant events in this area of the home during August.

South-West

Star 8 (Earth) visits the South-West and strengthens the Yearly Star 7 (Metal), as Earth supports Metal within the Five Elements cycle. While Star 8 is traditionally associated with prosperity, this combination may manifest as scandal, gossip, conflict, or infidelity if negatively activated.

It is wise to remain mindful of your communications and relationships this month.

⬅️ West

Star 4 (Wood) visits the West this month, joining the Yearly Star 3 (Wood), making this one of the more challenging sectors for August. As both stars belong to the Wood element, they may bring emotional or mental challenges, particularly affecting females.

Gossip, arguments, disputes, and legal matters may also arise, so it is advisable to use this area minimally where possible and maintain a calm environment.

North-West

The Augmentative Star 3 (Wood) moves into the North-West and combines with the Yearly Illness Star 2 (Earth), a combination traditionally known as Bullfight Sha. This energy may give rise to family arguments, gossip, aggression, and legal entanglements.

From a health perspective, it may activate stomach and digestive complaints or indicate abnormal or difficult-to-diagnose health concerns.

🌏 Global Outlook

On a broader scale, the North, Centre, South, North-East, and North-West are the sectors most likely to experience heightened challenges during August.

If these sectors contain important rooms such as your front door, bedroom, office, or kitchen, take extra care this month. Avoid renovations, digging, or major disturbances, as activating challenging stars can intensify their effects.

As always, remember that Feng Shui is about working harmoniously with the energies around us. By being mindful of the monthly influences and making small adjustments where needed, we can better support our health, relationships, and overall wellbeing.

Health Tips for August 2026

According to this month’s seasonal energetic influences, August is associated with Yang Fire over the Metal Monkey. Yang Fire corresponds to the small intestine, shoulders, nervous system, blood and eyes, while the Metal element is associated with the lungs and large intestine. As Fire can temporarily weaken Metal, this month is a timely reminder to pay extra attention to respiratory health.

In Australia, August also marks the transition from winter into spring, when pollen levels begin to rise and conditions such as hay fever, seasonal allergies and asthma often become more prevalent.

Simple lifestyle measures can help support your lungs and immune system during this seasonal change. Choose warm, nourishing foods, stay well hydrated, maintain regular gentle exercise, prioritise quality sleep, and avoid prolonged exposure to cold winds or sudden temperature changes.

For those with a history of hay fever, asthma or recurrent respiratory infections, late winter is also an ideal time to take a preventative approach. At Healing Pond Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine Centre, we offer personalised treatment plans that may include Acupuncture, Moxibustion, Herbal Medicine and Gua Sha to support lung function, strengthen the body’s natural defences, and help improve resilience before the spring pollen season begins.
