COVID-19 AND THE ELEMENTS IN CHINESE METAPHYSICS
I know we are probably either terrified of this coronavirus or are fed up with all the news and just want to switch off.
As I have had so many inquiries about what I think about this virus from a Chinese Metaphysical point of view, I have decided to write my take on COVID-19.
As we are aware ,this year is The Chinese Year of Yang Metal on a Water Rat, and for those who attended my yearly workshop I mentioned that this year the elements are cold in constitution, and the elements that are missing are wood, fire & earth.
Therefore, the energy is declining, and we must go within to reassess and eliminate what is not of use no longer.
The industries that are challenged this year are wood, and fire industries as they are missing in the year.
Fire industries are planes, air travel, entertainment, stock market, finance, kitchen, petroleum (energy), restaurants, churches, etc
The Wood industries are fashion, textiles, books, media, magazines, herbal products, art, hair, environment, furniture.
As Water is so strong this year and, in the elements, Water industries need fire element to make money; these industries are shipping, transport, cruise ships, bars, and cafés.
Therefore, these industries are going to preform badly this year, and we are already witnessing this now, with retail stores, airline, cruises, transport, etc, are affected by the COVID-19.
Industries that will perform the well are:
Earth – property, land, hotels, buildings, construction, insurance, health care, hospitals, IT software, pharmaceuticals, and supermarkets.
Metal industries are, machinery, banking, beauty, high tech software, jewellery, surgery, etc.
And as we have already seen that Earth and Metal industries are souring, especially, supermarkets, property, pharmacies and health care.
In this year’s workshops I also mentioned that Yang Metal is compared to a big sword. Yang Metal people possess leadership qualities are normally people in power, the government, politics, military generals and heroes.eg, The Queen, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jeff Bezos, Pope Benedict XVI, etc.
Water represents the ocean. The ocean is forceful, and at times impulsive. It also represents fear.
So, you can say that the government and the media are instilling fear into the people, as the Yang Water Rat is like a mass of water, and we the people are like a mass of water. Thus, the fear that there will not be enough of anything, as people are panic buying and stocking up unnecessarily. Peeps, we live in a country where there is enough for everyone, if we do not over stock on what we don’t need.
On a Health Aspect

For those who attended my workshop on Feng Shui & Health with the knowledgeable Dr. Carrie Li from Healing Pond Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Centre we mentioned the health aspects for the year are:
Metal, representing the lungs, breathing organs, lungs, nose, skin and colon.
Water representing the kidneys, which governs the immune system, bone marrow, reproductive (fertility) system, and the sexual organ. The kidneys house our ancestral energy, rules birth growth and reproduction, and the ability to hear.
So, what does this all mean?
Well in Australia we have already experiences the catastrophic fires which affected our quality of air and our lungs.
The Coronavirus brings on respiratory symptoms of dry cough, shortness of breath (metal element) and affects the circulatory system decrease white blood cells (fire element) and decreases the function of our kidneys which is our immune system , so people with autoimmune diseases are also affected.
As Water element houses our ancestral energy, the corona virus is affecting the elderly as they are our ancestors.
So why so many deaths in China and Italy?
China is the most populous country with nearly 1.4 billion residents, but Italy and Japan have the highest oldest population.

In Italy, 23 percent of the population is over age 65, compared to the US, where that population is 16 percent. “Extended longevity has played some role in changing the population structure,” says University of Oxford demographer and epidemiologist Jennifer Beam Dowd. “But it actually has most to do with how rapid the decline in fertility has been in a population.” That is, it’s affected more by Italians having fewer children than it is by them living longer. https://www.wired.com/story/why-the-coronavirus-hit-italy-so-hard/
It’s no wonder that China & Italy have thus far have had the most casualties with COVID-19 and have impacted not only their families and communities but also globally.
On a health aspect what can we do to prevent contracting coronavirus?
Dr Carrie Li advises some health tips you can follow at home…
The key factor in battling against pandemics is to boost your immune system. Tips from our trained professionals include:
A healthy diet. Especially avoid cold foods and drinks which can lead to a weakened digestive system followed by a series of immunity complications
A good night’s rest. Note that time and length of sleep is important! We recommend sleeping before 11 pm and ensure 7-8 hours of sound sleep for adults
Regular exercise and exposure to the sun. Given COVID-19 can be transmitted via respiratory droplets, we advise our clients to adopt outdoor exercises as opposed to going to the gym. Sunbaking without sunscreen before 10 am or after 4 pm has a plethora of health benefits
Ensure the free flow of air in your home. Opening windows and doors to allow the exchange of fresh oxygen is essential for maintaining respiratory health. https://www.facebook.com/kaiyan.li.77/posts/2527187060864555
Some tips to build up your immune system is with food filled with antioxidants, Vitamin C and D – Google it .
Also, following the government recommendations of hand washing and physical distancing, and just common sense, if you’re not well avoid interacting with the elderly.
When would we see some normality?
In my opinion as the year is lacking fire element and most viruses tend to decline in warmer (fire element) weather we may find that once the Northern Hemisphere comes into their summer season, we can anticipate that the virus may subside.
As the Northern Hemisphere was in colder climate when the outbreak began in December 2019 (which is a Water Rat month in the Solar Calendar), viruses tend to thieve in colder climates.
This is also taken from the National Geographic site:
*The prospect that summer could stave off a pandemic is enticing. Last month, President Donald Trump tweeted about China’s efforts to contain the virus, saying they would be successful, “especially as the weather starts to warm.”
Viruses that cause influenza or milder coronavirus colds do tend to subside in warmer months because these types of viruses have what scientists refer to as “seasonality,” so the president’s comments have some scientific backing. But it’s highly uncertain that SARS-CoV-2 will behave the same way. Those currently studying the disease say their research is too early to predict how the virus will respond to changing weather. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/science/2020/02/what-happens-to-coronavirus-covid-19-in-warmer-spring-temperatures/
Only time can tell.
The Fire Months in the Solar Calendar which is the calendar that is followed in Chinese Astrology is May, June & July, therefore, we may see a decline in casualties and restrictions lifted in world travel and trade. Only time can tell, so let’s pray that we see great improvement and some normality in this time period.
As for the Southern Hemisphere, we enter our winter season in these months, so let’s hope this virus has been contained or an antidote has been discovered by then, but i cant see this happening till 2021.
Keeping our immune system healthy and happy and washing our hands to avoid spreading this virus and keeping calm to avoid stress and worry as stress lowers our immune system are what we can practice during this present time.
How does the Flying Star affect the energies in our home during the Year of the Metal Rat?
Every year on the 4th of February every dwelling has visiting energies that affect certain sectors in our dwellings.
This year the most challenging energies are in the:
SOUTH -representing ill- health & fertility- 6 coins are recommended as a cure for this direction and the,
EAST-represents difficulty, obstacles & destructive energy- 6 metal bells or a 6-metal piped wind chime is recommended to disperse negative energy.
The North is also where the Grand Duke resides – avoid disturbing the land, renovations, and place a Turtle Dragon facing the North,
Taking extra care if these sectors fall at the entry, bedroom or kitchen.
The month of March we have these energies doubling and strengthening as they are re-enforced by the yearly Flying Stars.
The centre energy is a Star 7- which is also a metal element in Feng Shui, and metal is the lungs – hence the central energy on a global scale is affecting the breathing organ in every home.
What can we do to avoid disturbing these energies in our home especially the East and the South?
Place the appropriate cures as stated above and avoid any fire elements in these sectors (reds, pink, orange, wine colours) and avoid disturbing the energies by renovating or digging the earth in these sectors, especially during the month of March which officially ends on the 4th of April 2020.
Let pray that by May 2020 the globe will start to see some positive outcome.
Let’s not forget how much the environment has purified in this time of stillness, with less fossil fuels and our waters are cleaner as there is very minimal pollution.
There is so much more I can say on this year’s energies, but I will end it here.
What I will also recommend is:
Avoid panic and over consuming and spend this time with your loved ones by catching up with things around the house that you never find the time to get to do in our busy lifestyles.
A great board game, card game or even drawing and painting with your family is also great to fill in the days.
Read that book you never get a chance to read, write that article, book or course you never get the time to write, cook and bake with your little ones and spend that quality time with them. The list is endless…
Be kind to one another we will all get through this.
